How To Wash And Get Odours Out Of Your Gym Clothes

If you're like most people, your workout clothes go through quite a beating! Sweat, dirt and odour are all parts of an intense gym session, which means that your activewear usually doesn't get worn more than once before it needs a good wash! If you're not doing a load of laundry every day, your gym clothes can get pretty smelly. Thankfully, we have some solutions for not only getting odours out but also extending the life of your activewear.

Don't leave used gym clothes in the bag

It should go without saying, but keeping damp, sweaty clothes hidden is only going to invite bacteria! As soon as you get home, remove clothes, shoes and towels from your gym bag so that everything has a chance to air out.

Use a laundry pre-spray on sweat stains

Not doing laundry straight away? Spritz your gear with a laundry pre-spray to keep stains and odour at bay. Hang your clothes so that they're able to air out.

Wash your activewear in cold water

You might be tempted to use hot water to deep clean your clothes, but it could actually harm the textiles- heat can break down the elasticity in stretchy fabrics. Use a good quality detergent with cold water instead. And avoid using fabric softeners- while it might seem like like a good idea to mask odours, it will damage the stretchy fabrics. Stick to properly washing the odour out of your gym clothes instead.

Hang your clothes to dry

As mentioned above, heat and elastics don't mix. Hang your workout gear or lay flat to dry. If you need to use the dryer, use it on the lowest setting.

Wipe down the inside of your gym bag

There's no point in putting a fresh set of gym clothes into a dirty bag. Using a damp cloth and cleaner, wipe down the inside and dry it with a towel.
